Becoming an Aged care and Disability Support worker

Requirements:

There are currently no minimum standard qualifications for entry-level care and support workers. However, many of the health care organisations and roles will require a formal qualification.

Steps to Become an Aged Care & NDIS Registered Support Worker

• Eligibility Check:
  The first step on your journey to becoming an Aged Care & NDIS support worker is to assess your eligibility. To be eligible, you must meet the following criteria:
  
  

1. Be 18 years or older
2. Hold a valid working with children check
3. Complete a police check
4. Have the necessary qualifications and experience in disability support

Before you can work in the aged care and Disability support worker sector, you will need a worker screening check.

Depending on your role, state or territory, and organisation, you may also need a:

• Up to date COVID-19 and/or influenza vaccination
• Working with Vulnerable People check
• Working with Children check.

Qualifications and Training:

To meet the NDIS Commission’s requirements, obtaining relevant qualifications is paramount. Courses such as the Certificate III in Individual Support (Ageing & Disability) or higher are generally recognised. Additionally, completing specialised training in areas such as first aid and medication administration can enhance your skills and make you a more attractive candidate to potential employers.
